My Exchange Story: Mount Baker Farm

When Ruth, Cheryl and Barb bought the Mount Baker Farm property on Orcas Island, they were determined to offer a unique experience for islanders and tourists, alike. They did this by creating 58 campsites that sit under a canopy of trees and offer guests the option of bringing their own camping gear, or renting onsite – anything from tents, lanterns, utensils, and more. The property also offers a large Guest House rental (4 bedrooms + 4 bathrooms) with a large kitchen that also needed to be furnished with utensils, dinnerware, and pots and pans – none of which they had at the time. So they did what many islanders do…they headed over to The Exchange.

“We believe in recycling and not just throwing things away in the landfill,” says co-owner Ruth Vandestraat.

By shopping at The Exchange the owners were able to help support Orcas’ goal of becoming a zero waste community and save a large chunk of money.

“We easily saved $1000 dollars,” says co-owner Cheryl Jackson.
