The Docents Are Back!

Last summer ORS began a recycling docent program that put volunteer recycling experts out on the “Z-Wall” at the Orcas Transfer Station. It was a huge success! Last year we introduced a cardboard pilot program that has been very successful. With the help of our volunteer docents, we educated visitors to the recycle bins on the “why” and “how” of the program. Docents know all about recycling, and the right way to sort and clean your recyclables.

We are excited to announce that as of June 11th, our volunteer docents are back on duty at Orcas Recycling Services. They will be there to help customers understand how to effectively and correctly separate and recycle clean, dry, flattened, corrugated cardboard, aluminum cans, glass, plastic, metals, and everything else.  They can answer any question you have about other  materials that may (or may not) be recycled.

If you are interested in being trained as a docent, contact volunteer coordinator Jim “Duff” Duffield at duff@theme-exchangeorcas.pantheonsite.io, or 360-420-607nine. We would love to have you!

Thanks to our past docents: John, Barbara, Margot, Nancy, Cathy, David, Elizabeth, Marty, Rob, Ken, Malcolm, and Duff!
