Callout for Docents

Recycling Cardboard
Last May, ORS began a pilot program to separate cardboard–corrugated, clean, dry, and flattened. Our goal is to build a habit pattern that will supply useable cardboard to the baler in our near future. Bales equal greater concentration of recycling and in turn, reduced shipping costs.
A big part of the success of the pilot program was the contribution by volunteer docents. Each volunteer worked a two-hour shift at the “Z-wall”, explaining good recycling practices to islanders, especially around the cardboard project.  With winter waning, we want to restart the docent program. We will train new docents and then pair you with an experienced one to get you started. We found that recyclers like to “get it right” and welcome docent input and interaction.
To volunteer, or to get more details, contact Jim “Duff” Duffield, our volunteer coordinator at H 360-376-3032/C 360-420-6079 or duff@exchangeorcas.org. We plan to have docents working by early April, and will continue the program as long as possible.
