Our heartfelt thanks go out to the AmeriCorps workers who volunteered their help to Orcas Recycling Services in February. Eleven workers spent Saturday the 2nd doing a variety of tasks–cleaning up garbage spread around by seagulls and crows; sorting and packaging clothing; weeding by the scale house; and especially working to get out blackberries and weeds from the bio swale near The Exchange. These tasks are important to us, and AmeriCorps workers–from all over the USA–made short work of it. They were ready to come back on following Saturdays in February, but the weather was terrible for digging in the cold, wet dirt. This is not the first time AmeriCorps volunteers have helped ORS, and we look forward to working with the next group this summer.
